Closing remarks - Financial Crime Conference

And now it falls to me to offer a few closing remarks before we end today’s conference. I’d like to firstly take this opportunity to thank our speakers and panellists very much for their time today and for providing such excellent and thought-provoking speeches and discussions. I really hope you have found today insightful and will take something away for your day-to-day work.

It’s clear to me from today that we all have a united goal. Fighting financial crime and making the UK’s financial system a hostile place for criminals to do business is a priority for all of us. I’ve been encouraged today to meet people from so many different sectors and types of organisation, there are so many parts to this challenge. Which is why it’s so important that we work together to achieve this.

I hope you’ve taken away from today that we, at the FCA, are as committed to this as you are. We want to work with you to achieve the best regime possible, we will use a risk-based approach to focus our resources where it’s needed the most, and we will be proportionate and fair when we take action.

Where there are opportunities to share information and benefit from each others’ work, let’s take these and use them in the best way we can. Let’s take advantage of new technologies where they can help us, and let’s continue to work together to achieve an effective, proportionate and fair regime that works for us all.

Now, that does conclude the formal part of today’s agenda.
