The Enforcement conference on 2 December 2014 focused on our new approach to regulation.
Our approach is to tackle issues of misconduct at an earlier stage by focusing on firms’ conduct and looking closely at the root causes of behaviour that lead to poor consumer outcomes and market conduct.
The conference was an opportunity for us to hear industry views, and to share how lessons learned from Enforcement cases can be turned into good practice for firms.
The day opened with an address from Martin Wheatley, Chief Executive and a keynote speech from Tracey McDermott, Director of Enforcement and Financial Crime, followed by panel discussions and breakout sessions on:
- how we can use enforcement to help behavioural change
- the range of supervisory and enforcement actions we can take
- our penalties framework
- lessons learned in the areas of consumer credit, benchmarks and culture and governance
We were also joined by a number of external speakers, including Simon Jack, Broadcaster and Dan Awrey, Associate Professor of Law & Finance from Oxford University.
