Find out more about the Digital Regulation Cooperation Forum (DRCF) and how it is supporting regulatory cooperation and coordination in digital markets.
Fairness in AI: A View from the DRCF
In April 2024, the DRCF published a blog on Fairness in AI: A View from the DRCF. The blog demonstrates how keen member regulators are to ensure that AI is fair, and that wherever AI is used in the UK, it doesn't result in anyone being exposed to discrimination or unfair treatment.
The DRCF was launched in July 2020 as a voluntary forum and aims to support cooperation between its 4 members:
- the Office of Communications (Ofcom)
- the Competition Markets Authority (CMA)
- the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO)
- the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
We joined the forum as a full member in April 2021, having previously been an observer member.
The DRCF website has more information, including the latest news and events, publications, research and roles available with forum members.
DRCF core aims
The DRCF has 3 core aims:
- Coherence: to promote greater coherence – where regulatory regimes intersect, the DRCF helps to resolve potential tensions, offering clarity for consumers and industry
- Collaboration: to work collaboratively on areas of common interest and address complex issues
- Capabilities: to work together to build the necessary capabilities – learning from what each regulator is doing and striving to be best in class, both now and in the future
2024/25 Workplan and 2024 Annual Report
The DRCF published its 2024/25 Workplan (PDF) and 2023/24 Annual Report (PDF) on 17 April 2024. Digital technologies are transforming the UK economy, and at the same time digital regulation is changing, with new legislation covering online safety, competition in digital markets, data protection and financial services.
DRCF AI and Digital Hub
The DRCF AI and Digital Hub (the ‘Hub’) is a new informal advice service setup by the ICO, CMA, Ofcom and FCA, designed to support innovators with their cross-regulatory queries. This service provides a unique opportunity to help bring innovations to market responsibly, faster, and with greater confidence. The Hub will run for a one-year pilot period ending in March 2025.
Please visit the Hub webpage for further information.
